The Department of Civil Engineering provides a broadly based undergraduate and graduate education in Civil Engineering. The Department is committed to the study of natural and artificial systems primarily consisting of cities, buildings and industrial products.
Civil engineers are responsible for the design and construction of buildings, highways, pollution, and contaminant control systems, water resource systems, etc. They are often responsible for planning, managing, operating and maintaining these facilities. Spurred by general population growth and expanding economy, more civil engineers will be needed to design and construct large buildings and building complexes, higher capacity transportation, water supply, and pollution control systems.
Problems pertaining to civil engineering are covered in lectures, practicum and industrial practice where the aim is to link knowledge, methodology, theory, and skills within the framework of projects.
The Department offers BS and MS degree programs in Civil Engineering.
