The 2nd World Cultures Festival, themed "Convergence of Heritage — Building the Future," was held in the capital Hanoi at the initiative of Ms. Ngo Phuong Ly, wife of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam.
AZERTAC reports that the festival, dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Vietnam's membership in UNESCO, aimed to present the cultural heritage of various countries, strengthen mutual understanding and friendship among peoples, and consolidate Hanoi's position as an international center of culture and cultural diplomacy. The four-day festival brought together 50 countries and international organizations, and featured 35 national cuisine pavilions, a film program from 18 countries, and presentations of national costumes from 19 states. International art programs were also held with the participation of nearly 220 artists from five continents.
The opening ceremony was attended by Vietnam's Deputy Prime Minister Ms. Pham Thi Thanh Tra, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ms. Lam Thi Phuong Thanh, Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Vu Dai Thang, and other officials, as well as Lazare Eloundou Assomo, Director of the UNESCO World Heritage Centre, and heads of diplomatic missions. The artistic program of the opening ceremony featured well-known Vietnamese artists and traditional Vietnamese art ensembles, while the international program presented examples of music, dance, and martial arts from various countries, with art ensembles from Azerbaijan, China, Indonesia, Israel, South Korea, Laos, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Peru, and Ukraine performing.
The performance by renowned saz player and Khazar University Department of Music and Arts lecturer ashug Ramin Garayev made an important contribution to promoting Azerbaijan's rich ashug music heritage in Vietnam and among the festival's international audience. The performance was received with great interest by spectators and by representatives of the culture and arts sector attending the event, and the uniqueness of Azerbaijan's national musical heritage and the performance characteristics of the saz art drew the audience's attention.
