On May 15, 2026, a debate on the topic "Is Progressive Taxation Fair?" was held among students of the School of Economics and Management at Khazar University. The event was opened by the Dean of the School, Dr. Dilara Rasulova.

The floor was then given to the members of the jury panel. Serving as judges were Imran Garayev, PhD, Senior Tax Service Adviser at the Training Centre of the State Tax Service, and Jayhun Mammadov, Senior Tax Manager at BP Exploration (Caspian Sea) Ltd. (AGT region) and instructor at the Department of Economics and Management.

The debate, organized in the Karl Popper format, featured second-year students Nuran Aliyeva (Finance), Maria Baghirzade (Business Administration), and Turkan Allahverdiyeva (Finance), as well as first-year student Orkhan Movsumov (Marketing). The students presented compelling arguments and discussed the strengths and weaknesses of the progressive tax system.

At the conclusion of the debate, the jury panel shared expert opinions in the field of taxation, commended the students' performances, provided feedback on their analytical thinking and public speaking skills, and offered constructive recommendations for their future endeavors.
