On April 8, 2016, the Department of Political Science and International Relations of Khazar University hosted the British ambassador to Azerbaijan, H.E. Irfan Siddiq. His speech was mainly dedicated to the Commonwealth of Nations and the discussion of the main principles upon which this intergovernmental organization operates. Mr. Siddiq provided a general overview of the institutions that function within these organizations, including the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Commonwealth Foundation, and elaborated on the purposes and decision-making functions of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. He then moved on to speak about the British participation in the EU and the upcoming referendum on European Union membership of Britain. The Ambassador also spoke about the main pro and con arguments with regards to the UK's possible withdrawal from the European Union. He wrapped up his speech by mentioning some of the achievements he has made for the progress of the British-Azerbaijani relationship during his term as Ambassador.
