On April 21, 2017, Rector of Khazar University Dr. Hassan Niknafs and Director of International Affairs Office Turan Jafarova visited the Embassy of Iraq where they had a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iraq to the Azerbaijan Republic Dr. Fadhil Awad Jebur AL-Shuwai. Mr. Al Hashimi Yousuf, president of the Centre for Assistance in Rendering of Treatment and Educational Services, an agency providing educational consultancy and services, also participated in the meeting.

The Ambassador emphasized the role of Khazar University as one of the leading universities in the country and expressed his gratitude for the work it does educating students from Iraq. The Ambassador referred to the decision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Iraq from August of 2016 about the recognition of several universities in Azerbaijan and stressed that he personally recommended Khazar as one of the best universities in Azerbaijan providing high quality education. The Ambassador also stressed that recognition of some of other local universities had been revoked due to their low performance and negative practice. Rector of Khazar Universiry, Dr. Hassan Niknafs thanked the Ambassador fort the trust and emphasized that Khazar University was committed to preparing high-quality specialists.

Meeting participants also discussed recruitment of Iraqi students and formalizing the cooperation between the Embassy and Khazar University by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The Centre for Assistance in Rendering of Treatment and Educational Services will be the implementing partner of the collaboration spelled out in the MoU.

The Ambassador invited the representatives of Khazar University to a ceremony during which a special award recognizing achievements of Khazar University will be presented. The ceremony will take place on April 27, 2017.
