On October 23, 2016, Gunel Ismayilova, Assistant of the Department of Azerbaijani Language and Literature, coordinated a trip to the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences’ Botanical Garden in Mardakan as part of her efforts to promote Azerbaijani history, culture, and arts to foreign citizens living in Baku. She has organized several such excursions for the foreign teachers working at the Baku American Center, where Ismayilova participates in English language classes taught by Americans visiting Baku through the Fulbright Program at the Center’s “English Language Club.” In addition to learning English at the Center, Ismayilova makes a point to introduce Fulbright scholars and other members of the Club to local attractions and events. During this particular excursion, the group visited the House Museums of Sergey Yesenin (Russian poet who lived in Azerbaijan in the 20th century) and Murtuza Mukhtarov. They also enjoyed the Botanical Garden, where employees told them about local flora and the history of the area. The foreign students in the group shared positive impressions from the day and said they would like to participate in similar events in the future.
