As part of the VIII Uzeyir Hacibeyli International Music Festival organized by the Azerbaijan Republic Ministry of Culture and Tourism and by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation on September 18-27, 2016, a two-part concert was held at Khazar University in the Marble Hall with Slovakian violinist Ferhad Ashumov and Associate Professor Zulfiyya Sadigova, pianist and Head of the Department of Music and Fine Arts at Khazar University, along with the Khazar University Chamber Orchestra. University administrators, staff, students and guests attended the concert.
Before the concert, Vice President Isakhan Isakhanli made a speech to greet the audience and to give information about Uzeyir Hajibeyli’s creative activities and the significance of this annual festival.
Then the Chamber Orchestra began their performance. During the intermission, Meritorious Artist Sardar Farajov (Director of the Uzeyir Hajibeyli House Museum) spoke about the creation of Khazar University Chamber Orchestra and its professionalism. He thanked the university for its active participation in this annual music festival.
During the second half of the concert, Zulfiyya Sadigova and Ferhad Ashumov performed on piano and violin. Both halves of the concert included works by Azerbaijani and world composers.
At the end of the event, Prof. Isakhanli thanked the participants. He gave a gift and bouquet to Ferhad Ashumov on behalf of the university.
Prof. Hassan Niknafs, President of Khazar University, and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iraq to the Azerbaijan Republic, Fadhil Awad Jebur Al-Shiwaili, also attended the event.
