On September 14, 2016, Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences held a conference on Mahammadhuseyn Shahriyar, great Azerbaiani and Iranian poet. Participants at the conference included scholars and official visitors from Azerbaijan and Iran.

Professor Hamlet Isaxanli, the founder of Khazar University and Chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees, made a presentation about the works of Shahriyar and a comparison between him and Samad Vurghun. Professor Isaxanli also read his own poems at the conference.
