About us

ABOUT US

  • The Eurasia Extractive Industries Knowledge Hub is a training and research center with the aim of knowledge delivery and development in the extractive industries field 
  • The Hub was jointly created by Khazar University (Baku, Azerbaijan) and Revenue Watch Institute (NY, USA) to promote dialog between government and civil society to ensure long term sustainable development in extractive countries

 

MISSION

  • To improve knowledge and skills of civil society representatives and other stakeholders in the extractive industries (EI)
  • To transfer specific knowledge for the increase of effectiveness and transparency in EI administration
  • To build confidence among government agencies, businesses and civil society in the extractive industries  regarding optimal management of revenues from the sale of natural resources

 

OUR ACTIVITIES

  • Provide a cycle of thematic trainings, summer school and other dedicated courses
  • Technical assistance and mentorship (providing trainers, modules, consulting, etc.)
  • Research on the extractive industries effectiveness and transparency in the region and globally

 

 OUR TARGET AUDIENCE

  • Civil society representatives who want to improve their knowledge in EI
  • Journalists who cover subjects such as EI transparency, public finance and budgeting
  • Academic researchers and scholars who are interested in EI
  • Members of Parliament, government and corporate representatives

 

 GEOGRAPHY WE COVER

  • Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Mongolia, Georgia, Ukraine, Russia, Afghanistan, Bulgaria, Albania and Turkmenistan.

 

HOW DOES THE HUB WORK?

  • Participants are introduced to methods of research and analysis, rules and means of conducting campaigns according to the lobbying interests of the community, and also principles of social dialogue between representatives of civil society and representatives of companies or government structures.
  • During training events, participants have the opportunity to meet with representatives of extractive companies and government bodies. They also visit the Sangachal terminal where the Baku-Tbilisi Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline originates.
  • A cultural program that includes a sightseeing tour in the city of Baku is provided during the course of training.
