An article entitled “Dedikodu halkbilim türü müdür” (“Is gossip a genre of folklore”) co-authored by Professor Hamlet Isakhanli, the Founder of Khazar University, Chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees, and Aynur Gazanfargizi, member of the University's Department of Languages and Literature, has been published in the “Uluslararası Halkbilim Araştırmaları Dergisi” (International Journal of Folklore Research (Volume 3, No. 5, Turkey).
For the first time in folklore research, gossip was approached as a genre, and attempts were made to prove it with examples. Also, modern texts of gossip, newslore (folklore that comments on and hinges on knowledge of current events), mass lynches, interpretations, etc. were collected from the internet resources and analyzed. The genre of gossip has been studied from the perspective of Islam and law, through the prisms of tradition and modernity. The study also explored the social and psychological aspects of gossip.
