As it is known, the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On Mediation” will come into force in Azerbaijan on January 1, 2021. According to this law, the parties are required to attend the initial mediation session before going to court on disputes arising from commercial, as well as family and labor relations (Article 3.2).
For this purpose, in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated April 3, 2019 “On the deepening of the reforms in the judicial-legal system” and the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On Mediation”, on February 12, 2020 the “Mediation Council” non-profit legal entity was established and registered by the Ministry of Justice on February 16, 2020.
By the decision of the Mediation Council dated March 3, 2020, the Academy of Justice of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan was accepted as a member of the Mediation Council as a mediation training institution.
From 27th of May to 6th of June and from 4-13th of August this year, the mediation training institution of the Academy of Justice organized initial training courses for mediators. The course was conducted by international mediators Ruslan Mirzayev and Konstantin Adi-Gavrila, who have an extensive experience in this field.
Melek Kerimova, Coordinator of the Department of Psychology at Khazar University, also participated in these intensive trainings and successfully passed the exam, fulfilling the requirements of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On Mediation” and was awarded certificate (Article 14.2). According to this document, it will be officially filed in the register of the Mediation Council.
It is remarkable that the Erasmus + KA2 project, partnered with Khazar University, the Mediation: Training and Social Transformation (MEDIATS) project, will be implemented in our country and will contribute to this process.
