On February 27, 2020, Khazar University hosted an event dedicated to “March 1 - World Civil Defense Day”, organized by the Life Sciences Department of the School of Sciences and Engineering. The event was attended by University’s faculty members and students. Mais Talishkhanov, a staff member of Khazar University and retired lieutenant-colonel, opened the ceremony. He provided students with an overview on the importance, duties of civil defense and enlightened the participants how to prepare for a state of emergency. Afterwards the floor was given to Fergana Aleskerli and Shabnam Agayarova, University’s students from the School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences. The information about the history and development of the International Civil Defense Organization and the role of Azerbaijan in this organization was presented to the participants by Sama Gasimova, the student from the same School.
“March 1 - World Civil Defense Day” is dedicated to one theme each year. This year, the event continued with a presentation by student Parvin Hasanova on “Civil Defense and First Aid in Every House”. Later, student Aytac Shikhiyeva demonstrated the rules of giving artificial respiratory aid and emergency cardiac massage to people in emergency situations during the event. Then the participants were presented with the first aid kit and first aid rules during bleeding by Fatma Agaeva and Shahla Guliyeva.
Adana Nagiyeva, a student of the School of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, explained the rules of providing first aid to those injured during the fire and wherein a foreign body stuck in the respiratory tract. Student Aysel Gojayeva informed the participants about the causes of carbon dioxide and first aid during poisoning.
Ulker Mammadova, a 3rd-year student, in turn, spoke about the increasing use of various types of chemicals and their compounds in production, household, protection against GTZM, and explained the rules of first aid in poisoning in an extensive manner.
Speaking at the event, Malak Karimova, Director of the Center for Psychological Services at Khazar University, underlined the psychological state of people during emergencies and preparedness for such situations, provided recommendations on this. Asaf Omarov, a member of the University's Civil Defense headquarters and Head of the Life Science Department, spoke with students about the ensuring of public safety during emergency situations, he also provided information on the special importance of protection of the population in the event of natural and man-made emergencies and answered the questions of students.
