On November 13, 2019, the University hosted an event entitled “Aikido knows no Hindrance”, organized by Melek Kerimova, the Head of Khazar University's Psychological Service Center, Coordinator of the Psychology Department. Among the invitees of the event were Matanat Gudsi, Head of the “Mindset with no Hindrance Support for the Social Development” Public Union, and Engin Ergin, the Head of “Japanese Arts and Sports” Society, and teacher at the Ege University. It is worth noting that Engin Ergin is the only trainer among the 1,500 Aikido trainers in Turkey, committed to teach professional sports for people with disabilities. At the event, Engin Ergin and his team provided a visual demonstration of how Aikido sports handicaps are used by persons with disabilities. The aim of the training was also to spark interest among the persons with disabilities and spread this type of sport in Azerbaijan amongst this group. It was of great interest to students with disabilities to see how they could defend themselves.
Speaking at the event, Melek Karimova talked about the university's positive attitude to students with disabilities and also provided information about the Center for Students with Disabilities, established under the ESFIDIP project, so that they can enjoy a comfortable university education. At the same time, she indicated that the mental and inner strength of socially active people with disabilities are a source of motivation and inspiration for all. At the meeting, Director of the Teaching and Learning Center, Ulkar Bayramova, emphasized the importance of the organized events in this context with Turkey and the local partners and the need for reflection on new projects to further cooperation and expressed her appreciation.
