On November 6, 2019, a Mexican public holiday- Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos in Spanish) was celebrated at Khazar University’s Neftchiler campus with the support of the Embassy of the United Mexican States in Azerbaijan.
In her opening statement, Prof. Irada Khalilova, Rector of Khazar University, delivered a welcome speech and expressed her respects to H.E. Mr. Rodrigo Labardini, Ambassador of Mexico to Azerbaijan.
Following that, the short animation film with a message that death is a natural part of the life cycle was screened. Then Ambassador delivered a presentation on existing traditions, values, and the importance of the celebration for the Mexican people.
As a part of its traditions, the special altar containing water, the bread of the dead, candle, fruits and vegetables, cultural embellishments, photos of the dead peoples, skulls and the traditional flower and costume, was decorated at the university lobby. Students got a chance to have a closer look at Mexican traditions and culture through the explanatory introduction of the Ambassador.
