On November 5, 2019, the Khazar University International Affairs Office held a meeting with the winners elected to the International Students Union (ISU), congratulated them, and informed them of their obligations. Khazar University Leadership has also stated that they will provide the necessary support to ISU. In the near future, the ISU Board will prepare the ISU Charter and present it to the Leadership during the upcoming meeting.
It is worth mentioning that for the first time in Azerbaijan, The International Student Union (ISU) was established at Khazar University upon the initiative of Khazar University International Affairs Office. The establishment of such a union is important, with regards to its role in developing leadership and communication skills and instilling in international students a sense of belonging, as well as effectively protecting students' rights.
From October 18 to 21, 2019, elections were held to determine the composition of the ISU’s legislative body. In general, the creation of the ISU was greatly welcomed by the students. Eight foreign students have nominated candidates for their communities - Asia, Eurasia, Africa and MENA - and have announced their election campaigns. Imtiaz Ahmed of Pakistan, Mohammed Abubakar Mohammed of Africa, Ahmet Coskun Eurasia and Abdulhussain Alrubai have been elected to the ADB Board of Elections based on the results of the elections announced on October 22. The International Student Council was decided to be the decision-making body of the ISU. To elect this body, the election was held on 18-21 October. Before the election day, Khazar University International Office asked international students to nominate themselves to be the voice of their community- Asia, Eurasia, Africa, and MENA. Following the nomination stage, the approved candidates were given one week to run an election campaign.
