On October 9, 2019, the first meeting of the Khazar University Academic Council was held in the new academic year. Opening the meeting, Associate Professor Irada Khalilova, the Rector of the University, touched upon a number of issues before moving on to the agenda. Initially, she spoke about the commitments of Vurgun Ayyub, the Head of Languages and Literature Department, a member of the Academic Council, who passed away last month. At her suggestion, Vurgun Ayyub’s memory was commemorated with a minute's silence. Following that Associate Professor Irada Khalilova familiarized the board members with the certificate of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan on accreditation of Khazar University. Then the Rector informed that Associate Professor Roza Arazova, Head of the Department of History and Archeology, requested to resign from her position as Head of the Department. Rector emphasized that she has played an important role in the development of the University since its foundation and presented her letter of gratitude, signed by Professor Hamlet Isakhanli, the Founder of Khazar University and Chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees. Associate Professor Roza Arazova thanked for the attention and expressed hope that the new Head of the Department will contribute to further development of the University while preserving existing traditions.
The members of the Academic Council then went on to discuss the issues on the agenda. Speaking on the first issue of the agenda, Professor Mahammad Nuriyev, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of the University, spoke about the new membership of the Khazar University Academic Council and presented its new members to the board.
Delivering their speeches with regards to the second issue on the agenda, Fahranda Alimardanova, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Sciences and Engineering, Jeyhun Mammadov, Dean of the School of Economics and Management, Elza Samadova, Dean of the Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences, provided information on the University graduates.
Information on the topic of dissertation of PhD students, the approval of the academic supervisors and the change of the majors was provided by Jabir Mammadli, Coordinator of the Division of Graduate Studies and Research, following with the speeches of PhD students and candidates, and questions were answered.
Appropriate decisions were made on the issues discussed.
