On May 23, the staff of Khazar University met with Mayor Courtney Olso, the Chief of Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRO) in Azerbaijan, and assistant to the Chief Emily Libruk, and Representatives in Azerbaijan of the US Science and Technology Center (STCU) in Ukraine. At the meeting, Professor Hamlet Isakhanli, the Founder of Khazar University and Chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees, provided information about the activities of the education hotbed and spoke about the importance of the “One Health” concept in the fight against diseases for the countries of the Region. Then, Associate Professor Irada Khalilova, the Rector of the University, emphasized the importance of participation of scholars in joint projects, conferences and regional meetings. Furthermore, she indicated that organization of joint educational projects and trainings with the counterparts from the countries of the Region (Georgia, Turkey) and DTRO leaders are the main concept of the “One Health” principle for the expansion of cooperation. Following that, DTRO Country Assistant Emily Libruk presented a brief presentation on the main trends and perspectives of the agency's fight against diseases.
The sides also discussed the prospects of cooperation within the Biothreat Reduction Program and stressed the importance of further cooperation enhancement in the field of human resources development. Professor Hamlet Isakhanli made a proposal to the delegation to work closely with Khazar University in order to carry out scientific projects. DTRO Country Director Courtney Olso expressed her gratitude for the sincere welcome and conveyed confidence that the cooperation would continue to grow further.
