On February 17, 2017, Khazar University and the State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan jointly held a conference to celebrate 10 years of the State Migration Service in Azerbaijan in the “Marble Hall” on Khazar University’s Neftchilar Campus. The topic of the conference was “Migration Policy in Azerbaijan: Achievements and Development Perspectives”.
The conference was attended by officials and staff members of Khazar University, the State Migration Service, governmental and international agencies, NGOs as well as scholars and experts of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and other Azerbaiajni higher educational institutions.
The conference was opened with a short film highlighting achievements of the State Migration Service in Azerbaijan.
Professor Hamlet Isaxanli, the founder of Khazar University and Chairman of its Board of Directors and Trustees, made an opening speech in which he stressed the importance of the conference topics. He also gave brief information about Khazar University to the audience.
Pariz Musayev, Deputy-Director of the State Migration Service of Azerbaiajn, spoke about the history of the agency, its activities and achievements in the past decade.
Other speeches were made by Furio de Angelis, Head of UNHCR Office in Baku and Serhan Aktoprak, Director of the International Organization for Migration. Dr. Jeyhun Mammadov, Head of the Department of Economics and Management, made a presentation on Khazar University Center for Migration Studies.
A panel discussing three important topics – Migration Policy and Human Rights ”,“ International Protection of Refugees and Asylum Seekers ”,“ Migration in the Era of Globalization: Challenges and Responses”, followed the opening ceremony. Presentations were made by Vahid Gahramanov, Azer Allahverenov, Khayala Abbasova, Nazim Salmanov, Gulgun Babayeva, Isalm Hidayetov, Jamil Huseynov (State Migration Service); Ronald Sketdon (Sussex and Maastricht universities); Meltem Ersan (UNCHR); Fuad Jabbarov (Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of Azerbaijan Republic); Roland Hosner (International Centre for Migration Policy Development); Turan Jahangirova ( Ombudsman Office of Azerbaijan); Rima Mammadova, Sevinj Shafiyeva (Khazar University); Metleb Mahmudov, Zakir Eminov (Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences); Rena Agamirova (Ministry of Youth and Sport of Azerbaijan Republic); Garib Asgarov (State Border Service of Azerbaijan Republic); and Rafig Najafguliyev (Police Academy, Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbijan Republic).
Following discussions, resolutions were accepted at the end of the conference.
