On December 8, 2016, Professor Dr. Asadulla Gurbanov of Baku State University gave a lecture on “The Foundations of Multiculturalism in Islam” for students majoring in History, Political Science, International Relations and Regional Studies. The event was coordinated by the Department of History and Archeology and the Department of Languages and Civilizations.
The scholar spoke about the significance of the announcement of 2016 as the Year of Multiculturalism in Azerbaijan and the important doctrines of universal human values such as multiculturalism and tolerance in Islam, citing Quran passages and the teachings of Muslim saints and thinkers. He also spoke about the writings of Western authors and philosophers about Islam, and he answered students’ questions.
At the end of the event, the department chairs Roza Arazova and Elnura Azizova thanked the professor for his interesting lecture.
