On November 4, 2016, the International Affairs Office staff and volunteers conducted an orientation session for first year international bachelor students admitted to Khazar University in the current academic year (2016-2017). Participants included new full-time bachelor students from Afghanistan, Cameroon, Gambia, Iran, Iraq, and Zimbabwe, as well as exchange students from Turkey. The orientation session took place on the Neftchilar Campus.
During the orientation session students got an opportunity to learn about the University’s resources and services, meet other international students, and learn about the culture of Azerbaijan. Topics covered during the orientation session included but were not limited to: academic and social life at Khazar University, history of Azerbaijan, local culture and traditions, annual events in Baku, rules and regulations concerning foreigners in Azerbaijan, and others. Current international students also participated in the session and shared their experience with their fellow international students. Representatives of Student Union and Library Information Resource Center gave short presentations about their resources and services they provide and how students could benefit from them.
New bachelor students had a chance to win small prizes – promotional materials of Khazar University and local souvenirs – by answering quiz questions throughout the session. Students were challenged by being tested on their knowledge about the history and culture of Azerbaijan.
The one-day orientation session ended with a tour to Khazar University’s affiliate, Dunya School. Students were introduced to the school staff and visited laboratories, classrooms, sport complex and other on-campus resources of the school.
